Why You Need Fun Softball Drills

Why You Need Fun Softball Drills

If you want to succeed as a softball player, you need to take things more seriously than most people who only take up the sport as a hobby. That covers from how well and how long you practice to the amount of focus that you have on every game.

But in order to appreciate your success, you must never take the element of fun from your game. After all, didn’t you take up playing softball because you enjoyed it?

And so you need to keep things enjoyable while you’re practicing with your teammates. Here are the reasons why:

1. To keep things from getting boring. One of the problems with doing the same drills over and over again is that they have the tendency to get stale and boring. Before you know it, you no longer look forwarding to practicing. And when boredom sets in, burning out won’t be far away.

So keep things fun with your softball drills, and you and your teammates won’t get bored practicing again.

2. To make learning concepts easier. Some concepts (plays, techniques, etc.) are way too difficult to understand especially if your coach couldn’t get his or her point across clearly. But having fun softball drills helps you understand concepts much easier. Why? Because you’re actually executing the concept and having fun while doing it. It’s much better than just sitting down and listening to your coach, right?

3. Because not everybody likes taking things too seriously. This is especially the case with teaching children how to play softball. For them, softball is just a game. And as a game, it’s meant to be fun.

Aside from that, younger players tend to be more receptive to what you’re telling them to do if they see that the activity is fun to do. Start becoming preachy or take things too seriously, and watch them doze off.

So keep things fun with softball drills that are creative, innovative and something that they haven’t encountered before. Drills like these are the sort of curveballs your teammates wouldn’t mind getting.

4. It helps you become creative. For most people, creativity lies on the realm of art and not sports. But what they don’t know is that it also takes a lot of creativity to choose a particular throw for a particular situation, or devising a play during a game. So by being creative with your drills and exercises, you also teach yourself and your teammates how to look at things in a new light which you can then apply to your game.

So you see, playing softball isn’t just all the serious drills and exercises. To keep things interesting and to make learning concepts easier, you must also be able to inject the element of fun into the game. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player, you must never forget to just enjoy playing softball. It’s always good to be occasionally reminded why you’re playing the game in the first place.
